BHL Middle School Spectrum Wikispace!!

spectrum1.jpg
Welcome to the Burney-Harris-Lyons Wikispace. We will be using this wiki throughout the 2010-2011 school year in a number of classes across all three grades.

As the school year gets underway we will be using this wiki more and more. In the meantime, take a look around and see some of the things we have done on the wiki these last few years.

Enjoy!
Mr. Thompson

Not the best game for learning Geo Bee but it is very fun and challenging. Think SIMON.

Don't forget to work on your science fair project over the break! We'll wrap everything up the first week in January. Just make sure to complete your experiment over the break and document EVERYTHING.

Also, don't forget to check-in!!!

7TH GRADE SCIENCE FAIR HELP

SUMMER READING HAS COME AND GONE.

You should have received a second copy of the summer reading assignment sheet with your report card, however, I have uploaded a pdf of the summer reading assignment for each grade level just in case you misplaced it.

HELPFUL HAND-OUTS - downloadable, pfd format

Secondly, make sure you come see us on Saturday, June 5th at the ACC Public Library between 10am - 1pm. We'll have copies of each book for check-in. In addition, we'll have a few extra things to help you with your summer reading adventures! If you are busy Friday, then we'll also be set up at the BHL (room 103) on Monday, June 7th from 10am - 1pm. Again you can borrow a book from us (limited to what we have left), get some resources to help you with your summer reading, and even get some Twitter help (if that is going to be your creative project for the summer).

twitter-logo.jpgSpeaking of Twitter: Later this week we'll post information on what makes a great "tweet' for those of you using Twitter as your creativity project- so check back!

Regardless, you can keep up with us on Twitter (even if you are not going to do it for one of your projects).

Posting Reminders

Everyone is a doing a great job and your posts are impressive. Here are a just a few things to watch out for when posting.

  1. spectrum2.jpgBe careful not to delete others’ posts when editing a page. This has already happened a couple of times, so just be careful (if it does happen I can fix it).
  2. Remember that everyone can see what you post, so watch out for spelling and grammar problems. I’m never perfect in this area either and often find myself re-editing a post to fix some mistakes. In other words proofread and revise!!
  3. Quotes need page numbers (and need to be reproduced exactly as they appear in the story).
  4. When posting keep the language proper, meaning watch the use of numbers for words (i.e. 2 = to – I’m looking at you bb-blue!!), abbreviations, and l33t speak. Treat your language like any other writing assignment you’d turn in. I don’t mind the occasion use here and there but remember our audience is, technically, worldwide so lets keep it proper (additionally, it hurts the validity of your argument when you use such language).
  5. Lastly, if you feel something is missing on the wikispace --- add it.
Overall, amazing stuff! Keep it up.

How to join.

If you are a student at BHL and are in some of the classes that Mr. Thompson helps out in from time to time, click the “join this space” link on the left.
Next, click “join Wikispaces now” and create a user name / password and submit an email address. (You do not need to make a wikispace, so you can leave “no” checked).
Click Join and you are done!
You’ll be approved shortly.

How To Check For New Edits

Check out the "Recent Changes" link to the left. That link will let you know all of the latest changes. This way you do not need to search through the website looking for what is new.
